British foreign policy in the context of the partition of India
Lacko, Daniel ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Martin (referee)
The thesis deals with the decolonization process of the partition of India from 1947 and its consequences. Its goal is to draw conclusions regarding the role of British foreign policy (the British government) in this process, from which two new sovereign states emerged - India and Pakistan, whose relations are still characterized by their rivalry. Specifically, the thesis seeks to answer two research questions. First, whether British foreign policy actions had an impact on the emergence of the Indo-Pakistani rivalry. Second, if so, were those actions the main causes of this rivalry, or were other events (unrelated to British action) responsible for it. In its first part, the thesis also discusses the phenomenon of decolonization from a theoretical point of view. The second part is dedicated to a case study of the partition of India. This part is in the second chapter devoted to a detailed description of the most important events from the period 1857-1947, which has the task of providing the reader with an image of how the partition of India itself took place in 1947 and what was a role that the British played in it. The third chapter, still part of the case study, begins by briefly describing the aftermath of the partition of India and the origin of the Indo-Pakistani rivalry. Then the connection...

Kmošena, Jakub ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
Diploma thesis is concerned with the topic of relations between modern media and foreign policy. In a general context of this relation, we focused on the theory of CNN effect, describing it causes and particular manifestations mutual media and policy interactions. We try to analyze CNN effect on single case of armed conflict in Libya and its media coverage by influential American daily papers. By combination of existing scientific methods, we created adapted research method for our case, which is based on quantitative content analyses of all published articles with main topics - armed conflict in Libya - in the period of 33 days till the adoption of Security Council resolution. Main variables of our research was the date of publishing, articles range, section in newspaper and especially "value direction" of article in favor or not in favor of armed intervention to Libya. Analyses of media coverage of this topic were then confronted with factual analyses of topic in same time period. Results of our research confirmed potential relation between media coverage and US state department decision to intervene in Libya conflict. For absolute causality confirmation between these two variables would be necessary much more extensive research. Additional output of this research was confirmation of partial...

Pavlová, Pavlína ; Weiss, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to critically examine the impact of the EU membership on the economic diplomacy of Slovak Republic. The research is based on the analysis of strategic documents of economic diplomacy of SR and official statements of its main representatives. The analytical part of this thesis was preceded by a theoretical section that explained and fixed the meaning of the terms such as Europeanisation and economic diplomacy. This was followed by a short introduction to the economic diplomacy of SR. In the selected documents, the changes in terms of the economic diplomacy of SR were examined on three different levels. Firstly, the exploration of the strategic level of the economic diplomacy was conducted, which elucidated the trends of the development of the economic diplomacy. Subsequently, the tasks of the economic diplomacy were clarified. Last but not least, the pressure on the institutional changes in the organisation of the country's representatives of the economic diplomacy was monitored. The thesis examined changes in the selected areas in chronological order with the emphasis on the period of the EU membership of SR. The impacts of the Europeanisation of the economic diplomacy of SR were tracked on the basis of the typology introduced by Tanja Börzel. As a result of this...

Bátová, Martina ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Knutelská, Viera (referee)
This bachelor thesis concerns the Slovak political system under the Vladimír Mečiar's government and its influence on the foreign policy. The aim of this thesis is Mečiar's authoritarianism and to analyse if there was an impact on the inner policy as well as foreign policy. It analyses the period from the beginning of the second Mečiar's era as the prime minister in 1992 to 1998 when his third government ended. The thesis is conducted in the form of a case study. In the thesis I specifically elaborate the theory of democratic consolidation written by José Juan Linz and Alfred Stepan which focuses on the democratic consolidation of political arena; then I elaborate the Fareed Zakaria's concept of illiberal democracy and additionally I study the Guillermo O'Donnell's concept of representative democracy. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to prove the democratic deconsolidation in political arena in Slovakia and to verify the validity of the theory of defective democracy on the case of Slovakia and also to describe the Slovak political isolationism which has been in my opinion too little analysed. In the first part of the thesis I present the three theories mentioned above and their individual components. In the following empirical part these individual components are applied to specific examples...
